About this experience
The alpaca farm outside Shamakhi keeps a herd in the hill country west of Baku, and opens to visitors who want to get close to them. Alpacas are not native to the Caucasus, which is much of the appeal - the animals are hand-reared, used to people and happy to be fed.
It works well as a stop on the Shamakhi road alongside the wineries and the Diri Baba mausoleum, and it is one of the few things in the region built squarely around children.

Questions
Yes. The animals are hand-reared and used to visitors, and feeding is the main draw.
The Shamakhi wineries, the Diri Baba mausoleum and the Juma Mosque are all on the same road.
Around ninety minutes.
It is about two hours each way, so it is usually done as part of a full Shamakhi day rather than on its own.
