Questions travellers ask us

Do Indian passport holders need a visa to visit Thailand?

Indian passport holders currently enjoy visa-free entry to Thailand for tourism for stays of up to 30 days. You must hold a passport with at least six months validity from your arrival date, confirmed return flight tickets departing within 30 days, proof of accommodation (hotel bookings), and sufficient financial funds (at least 20,000 THB per person or 40,000 THB per family, which can be shown in cash or international card statements). In addition, all foreign visitors arriving in Thailand by air, sea, or land must complete the mandatory Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online at tdac.immigration.go.th within 72 hours before arrival.

What is the best time to visit Thailand?

The cool and dry season from November to February is the best time to visit most of Thailand, with pleasant temperatures, lower humidity, and clear skies ideal for sightseeing in Bangkok and trekking in the north. March to May is the hot season, best for beach holidays on the Andaman coast, though northern Thailand (Chiang Mai) can suffer poor air quality from burning season. The rainy season from June to October is ideal for budget travelers, with shorter rain bursts and significantly lower accommodation prices. Note that the Gulf of Thailand coast (Koh Samui, Koh Phangan) has its heavy monsoon from October to December, which is the opposite of the Andaman Coast (Phuket, Krabi).

What currency is used in Thailand?

The official currency is the Thai Baht (THB). Cash is essential for street food, local markets, tuk-tuks, and smaller vendors. Credit cards are accepted at hotels, shopping malls, and upscale restaurants. It is advisable to exchange currency at authorised bank booths in cities rather than at airports, where rates are less favourable. The TAGTHAi wallet app provides a tourist-friendly cashless payment option at many attractions and participating venues. ATMs are widely available but typically charge international withdrawal fees.
