About this experience

The Khan's Palace at Sheki was built in 1797 as a summer residence, and it is one of the few buildings of its kind still standing. It is UNESCO listed together with the historic centre of Sheki.

Its façade and upper rooms are filled with shebeke: lattices of thousands of hand-cut wood and coloured glass pieces assembled without nails or glue, held together only by the precision of the joinery. Inside, the walls are painted floor to ceiling with hunting scenes, battles and flowers. The building is small, so a visit is short and dense rather than long.
