Dubai New Year's Eve 2026: What It Costs and When to Book

A Dubai New Year trip for a couple, with return flights, four nights in a hotel and visas, costs roughly Rs 1.1 lakh to Rs 1.9 lakh from India if you stay in a cheaper area a metro ride from Downtown, as of September 2026. Put the same trip in a mid-range Downtown or Marina hotel and it becomes roughly Rs 1.6 lakh to Rs 2.7 lakh. A family of four in the cheaper areas should expect about Rs 2 lakh to Rs 3.5 lakh. The hotel drives almost all of that spread, because Dubai hotel rates climb steeply over New Year week and Downtown climbs the most. If your dates are fixed, book flights on a changeable fare and a refundable hotel rate now, decide on Burj Khalifa viewing later, and treat any fixed "New Year package" price you see before December as provisional.

What Dubai New Year packages actually cost in 2026

All prices below are approximate and as of September 2026. New Year rates move week to week.

Start with flights. As a rough planning figure, a return economy ticket from Delhi or Mumbai to Dubai sits around Rs 14,000 to Rs 20,000 on an ordinary week booked a couple of months ahead. New Year week pushes that up by a third to a half, so budget Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000 per person. Emirates also flies nonstop to Dubai from Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Kochi, so expect fares from those cities in a similar range, though live prices will differ. Nonstop flights for December 30 to January 2 are the seats I'd expect to go first, which is why I'd lock this piece in earliest, on a fare you can change.

Hotels are where the real damage happens. In Gulf News's checks last year, for six nights from December 28 to January 3, mid-range hotels in Business Bay and Marina ran from about AED 6,500 to AED 11,000 before taxes. Scaled to four nights, that is roughly Rs 1.1 lakh to Rs 1.9 lakh, and the five-stars on Sheikh Zayed Road cost several times that. Hotels a metro ride away in Deira, Bur Dubai or Al Barsha are the cheaper way in. I'd plan on Rs 60,000 to Rs 1,10,000 for four nights there, though I couldn't find published rates for December 31, 2026 itself. Many hotels near the fireworks, especially those with a view, set a two to four night minimum for the week, so you can't book only the expensive night and skip the rest. Quoted rates also often leave out taxes and service charges, which added roughly a quarter in the same checks, and hotels add a per-night Tourism Dirham fee on top. That is the honest reason I'd tell most first-time visitors to stay a metro ride from Burj Khalifa this week, rather than paying Downtown rates to be five minutes from the fireworks.

Then the visa. A standard 30-day UAE tourist visa costs AED 200 plus 5% VAT as the government fee, which is roughly Rs 5,500 at today's rate of about Rs 26.1 to the dirham. A travel agent will usually charge a bit over that, so plan on Rs 6,500 to Rs 8,500 all in. If you hold a valid US or EU visa or residence permit, you can use the 14-day visa on arrival instead, but check that this applies to you. The UAE has announced that Indian passport holders relying only on a UK visa or residence permit will lose eligibility, and the start date hadn't been confirmed as of September 2026, so ask your airline. Do not assume. Confirm before you skip the online application, because being stopped at check-in over a visa you thought would work is a bad way to start a trip.

That leaves out food, transfers and whatever you do on the night, and it climbs fast once you add a paid Burj Khalifa spot or a fancy dinner. Swap in a mid-range Downtown or Marina hotel and the total becomes roughly Rs 1.6 lakh to Rs 2.7 lakh. For four people, the same sums with a family room or two rooms (Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2 lakh) come to about Rs 2 lakh to Rs 3.5 lakh.

A New Year package from an agent usually bundles flights, a hotel and transfers into one price. It saves effort more than money, so compare it line by line against the numbers above. Ask about the hotel's cancellation terms and whether a compulsory New Year's Eve gala dinner supplement is included.

Burj Khalifa fireworks: free spots, paid tickets, and the options in between

Last year's ticketed Burj Park area cost AED 997.50 per adult and AED 577.50 per child aged five to twelve, roughly Rs 26,000 and Rs 15,000 at today's rate. That bought standing entry to the park below the tower with live entertainment, no seat and no food. Tickets for the December 2026 edition weren't on sale as of late September. If last year is any guide, expect similar prices or a little higher, gates opening around midday, badge collection at malls in the days before, and a sell-out.

You don't need it. Emaar keeps several free public viewing zones open around Downtown, including Boulevard Heights, Burj Vista, Emaar Square, Fountain Views and Old Town. The view holds up fine. You are just standing in the open instead of a fenced enclosure. Timing is the catch. Road closures began as early as 4pm last year, the free zones are first come, first served, and gates close once a zone is full. So aim to be in Downtown before 4pm. With kids or older relatives, expect a long wait and have a backup spot in mind.

For a step up without the standing, restaurants with a Burj Khalifa view sell dedicated New Year tables. Khaleej Times's list of front-view tables last year ran from about AED 1,900 (roughly Rs 50,000) per person to AED 12,000 (roughly Rs 3.1 lakh) for the best table at Souq Al Bahar. I'd only recommend this if the meal itself matters to you, because you're paying a premium for a view the public zones also give you.

The other option is a Dubai Marina dhow cruise on the night. Operators were listing New Year dinner cruises from about AED 400 per person (roughly Rs 10,500) up to about AED 1,000 (roughly Rs 26,000) for better seating, with a buffet dinner and live entertainment. Marina and JBR have their own fireworks around The Beach and Bluewaters, and Atlantis The Palm and Burj Al Arab run separate shows of their own, all apart from the Downtown Burj Khalifa show. So a Marina cruise puts you in front of a different show, not the tower. Pick it if you'd rather sit down to dinner than stand in a crowd, not if Burj Khalifa itself is the point of the trip.

If none of this appeals, skipping Downtown on the 31st is a reasonable call. It might be the better one with young kids or if you just don't want the crowds. Dubai has plenty to do that week that has nothing to do with midnight fireworks.

Road closures and getting around that night

Last year the closures came in stages from 4pm on December 31, with part of Sheikh Zayed Road shut later in the evening. The Dubai Mall metro station closed early, while the wider metro ran non-stop for 43 hours. None of this is confirmed for December 2026 as I write in September. Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority normally publishes exact timings closer to the date, so last year's plan is the best guide until then.

In practice, if you're staying in Downtown or Marina, walk, don't drive. If you're coming from elsewhere, get to a metro station well before it fills up, or accept that your last stretch will be on foot. Avoid an airport run in the early hours of January 1 if you can, because closed roads and crowds will work against you.

The Shopping Festival overlap, and what that changes

Global Village's new season opens on October 14, 2026 and runs to May 2027, so it will already be open when you land. Dubai Shopping Festival usually runs through December into January, but the 2026 to 2027 dates were not confirmed as of late September. For you, that means more going on than fireworks, more traffic, more hotel demand across the whole city rather than just Downtown, and proper retail discounts if shopping is on your list. It does not mean cheaper flights or hotels. December 26 to January 2 is likely one of the most expensive stretches to fly into Dubai all year, and shopping discounts arrive alongside everything else costing more.

When to book your 2026 trip

Late September through November is the window that matters. Prices don't rise on a fixed schedule, but inventory runs out in a set order: direct flights on your dates first, then family-sized hotel rooms in the areas people want, then dinner tables with a view. Last year's Burj Park tickets were limited in number, so start checking for the 2026 release in November.

A rough order I'd work in: flights on a changeable fare and a hotel room first, sooner if you need a specific room setup for a family. Visa next, once your dates are locked. Any paid fireworks viewing or dinner booking last, since there is nothing official to buy until Emaar announces the 2026 edition, and anyone selling a "guaranteed" spot before then deserves some scepticism.

Booking checklist for New Year week

• Take a refundable or flexible hotel rate, even at a small premium. Rates move between September and December, and a flexible booking lets you rebook if a better price appears.
• Ask about date-change terms on your flight fare and get them in writing when you book. They vary by fare type and change without notice.
• Apply for the visa as soon as your dates are fixed, and keep flights on a changeable fare until it is approved. This matters most if you are counting on visa on arrival and are not certain you qualify.
• If you are travelling with kids or older parents, leave a buffer day on either side of the 31st. This is not the week to race for a same-day connection.

Dubai is generally considered one of the safer, more heavily policed cities to take a family to over New Year. Late December daytime highs are around 24 to 25 degrees Celsius, dropping to the high teens after dark, so pack a light jacket for the fireworks.
