Vietnam 5 Days Trip Cost from India: Two 4-Night Plans Priced

For two people flying from Delhi, a 4-night Vietnam trip costs roughly Rs 97,000 to Rs 1.44 lakh with Hanoi and a night on Ha Long or Lan Ha Bay, and roughly Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.48 lakh with Da Nang, Hoi An and Ba Na Hills. That covers flights, a 4-star hotel, the e-visa, food and the main tickets, and it is approximate as of September 2026. Five days is not enough to see Vietnam properly, so I would pick one half and do it at a pace you will enjoy. Below is where the money goes, what each choice makes you skip, and when to file the e-visa so it does not wreck your dates.

Why you pick one half of Vietnam, not the whole country

Vietnam runs about 1,650 km north to south, and Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City alone is a 2-hour flight. Anyone selling you a "Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh in 5 days" package is selling you two days of actual sightseeing wrapped around three days of airports, transfers and one-night hotel stays you barely use. I would not book that trip for a first visit, and I would not book it for a second one either. With a short leave block, pick the north (Hanoi plus the bay) or the centre (Da Nang, Hoi An and the hills behind them), do that well, and save the other half for a longer trip later. Both shapes below assume you land on day one, spend four full nights on the ground, and fly out on day five, which is what "5 days" actually buys you once boarding and immigration eat into the ends.

Shape 1: Hanoi plus a night on Ha Long or Lan Ha Bay

This is the shape I would pick if you have not been to Vietnam before. Two nights in Hanoi's Old Quarter, a transfer out to the coast, one night asleep on a boat surrounded by limestone karsts, and a last night back in Hanoi before your flight home. It gives you a real city and a real landscape with only one night away from Hanoi, which matters more than it sounds when you have just four nights.

Skip Ha Long Bay's main harbour if the itinerary lets you choose, and ask for Lan Ha Bay instead. Lan Ha sees fewer boats than Ha Long for the same limestone scenery and a similar price, so you are not queuing behind other boats at every cave mouth. Ha Long still wins if you specifically want the famous view from Ti Top Island or your cruise line only sails the main bay, but for a first, short trip Lan Ha is the better trade.

Here is what two people should expect to pay, flying out of Delhi, for a mid-range version of this trip:

Ask whether the Hanoi pickup and drop is included in the cruise price, because some cruises charge USD 12 to 20 each way for it (about Rs 1,150 to Rs 1,900).

Treat every number here as approximate and dated to September 2026. Flights move the most with how far ahead you book, and fares from Kolkata and Mumbai can sit a little either side of Delhi's, so price your own city before you trust my range. What you give up choosing this shape: no beach, no Phu Quoc, no Ho Chi Minh City, and a fairly packed middle two days if you also want to see the Temple of Literature, Hoan Kiem Lake and the Old Quarter before you leave for the coast. Skip this shape if you want a beach, or if you are travelling from July to September, when typhoons can cancel cruises.

Shape 2: Da Nang, Hoi An and Ba Na Hills

This is the calmer, more resort-forward version of the same five days. You land in Da Nang, spend two nights near the beach seeing Marble Mountains and the Dragon Bridge, take a day for Ba Na Hills and the Golden Bridge, then move to Hoi An for two nights of lantern-lit old town streets, a cooking class if you want one, and a short bike or Grab ride to An Bang beach. Fly out of Da Nang on day five, a 45-minute drive from Hoi An.

Ba Na Hills is the one attraction worth planning around. The ticket, which covers the cable car both ways, the Golden Bridge, Fantasy Park and the French Village, costs 1,000,000 VND per adult, about Rs 3,700 at today's rate, and some listings show it valid for three consecutive days rather than one, so confirm that when you book if you want to go back up for sunset. Go early. The bridge gets crowded by late morning once the tour buses arrive from Da Nang and Hoi An.

There is no nonstop flight from Delhi to Da Nang, so you connect (most often through Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City) on VietJet or Vietnam Airlines, which adds a few hours each way. Flying from Mumbai or Kolkata you connect too, and connecting fares from Delhi and Mumbai run about the same, so the flight line in the table already assumes one stop. Get a live fare for your dates before you commit to this shape.

What you give up here: no cruise and no Hanoi. Also know that Hoi An's old town has no gates, but you need the 120,000 VND ticket to enter, and you may be asked for it at several street entrances, which catches first-timers off guard.

Timing matters more for Shape 2 than Shape 1. Central Vietnam is at its wettest from September to November, and Hoi An's old town floods most years in that window, so I would book this shape for February to May. Hanoi and the bay are better from October, but skip the cruise from July to September, when typhoons cause the most cancellations.

What about Phu Quoc instead

If you want a beach-only five days, Phu Quoc is the third option, though it deserves a full breakdown of its own rather than a rushed one here. The island has an unusual rule: any nationality can enter visa-free for up to 30 days on a flight that lands directly there. That does not help most Indian travellers today, because there is no regular scheduled flight between India and Phu Quoc. A seasonal charter ran over December 2025 and January 2026, and occasional charters like it come and go, but I would not plan around one. Almost everyone connects through Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, clears immigration there and needs the e-visa anyway, so budget for it. Four nights for two, flights included, start around Rs 1.05 lakh for a simple Long Beach stay and climb well past that for a resort on the quieter north coast.

How many days of leave this actually needs

A 5-day trip is four nights on the ground, and the leave count depends on where the weekend falls. Delhi to Hanoi flights either leave late at night and land around 5 am, or leave around midday and land in the early evening, and most flights home leave Hanoi in the evening. Connecting to Da Nang shifts those times, so check yours. Fly out on a Wednesday night and you land on Thursday. Four nights later it is Monday, so you fly home that day. That costs three days of leave (Thursday, Friday and Monday) around one weekend. Start on a Friday night instead and the same four nights run from Saturday to Wednesday, which costs Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. It is three days either way, so choose the start day by flight price and check for a public holiday in the gap, which is the only thing that really saves you leave. To get down to two days you would have to cut to three nights, and I would not go below four, because each shape is already tight.

When to apply for your e-visa

Every Indian passport holder needs a visa to enter Vietnam. There is no exemption for short leisure trips, and for a trip this length the e-visa is the only sensible option. Apply directly on the government portal rather than through an agent site that charges a markup for filling in the same form for you. The government fee is USD 25 for single entry or USD 50 for multiple entry, paid online in dollars, and the visa is valid for the dates you request, up to a maximum of 90 days, so lock in your travel dates before you apply. Processing usually takes about 3 to 5 working days, but busy stretches can run longer, and India's festive season overlapping with Vietnam's autumn rush is one of them, so I would apply 3 to 4 weeks before you fly. That leaves room to fix a blurry passport scan or a rejected photo without eating into your actual trip dates.

Food, money and the practical bits

Vegetarian food is easier to find in Vietnam than most first-timers expect, especially in Hanoi and Hoi An, which both have a Buddhist vegetarian food culture (look for "chay" on a menu, it means meat-free) alongside a small spread of Indian restaurants aimed at Indian tourists. Carry a mix of cash and card. Most hotels, restaurants and Grab rides in Hanoi, Da Nang and Hoi An take cards or Vietnam's local QR payment apps now, but street food stalls, the Ba Na Hills food court and smaller shops in Hoi An's old town still expect dong in cash, so change a small amount at the airport and top up at an ATM once you are in the city rather than carrying a large sum from home. This article converts at about Rs 96 and 26,000 dong to the dollar (late September 2026), so Rs 1,000 is a little over 270,000 dong. Keep that in your head for menus, where prices run to five or six digits.

If five days is not enough
