Best Time to Visit Singapore: Month by Month Weather and Prices

Singapore sits about one degree north of the equator, so it has no winter, no spring and no proper dry season. Singapore weather barely moves across the year: daytime highs run 30 to 33 degrees in every month, nights rarely drop below 24, and humidity sits near 80 percent. So the best time to visit Singapore comes down to three things that have nothing to do with temperature: rainfall, Indian school holidays, and the event weekends that quietly double your hotel bill.

The short answer

• Best value: mid-February to early March, and late August to mid-September.
• Driest: February, then May to July. Wettest: December, November, January.
• Most expensive: 15 December to 5 January, the Indian summer rush from late April to early June, and the Formula 1 weekend.
• Fewest crowds: the two weeks after Chinese New Year, and the first three weeks of November.

Singapore's two monsoons, plainly

The only Singapore season worth understanding is a rain pattern, not a temperature one.

• Northeast monsoon, December to early March. The wettest stretch. December and January bring long grey afternoons and the odd all-day drizzle, then February flips to the driest month of the year.
• Southwest monsoon, June to September. Shorter, sharper storms, often pre-dawn Sumatra squalls that clear by lunch. This is also when haze from Indonesian land fires can drift across, usually August to October. Some years nothing, some years bad for a week.
• Inter-monsoon, late March to May and October to November. The most thundery period. Expect a storm most afternoons, usually 4 pm to 6 pm, lasting 45 to 90 minutes.

Month by month: weather, crowds and price

• January. Around 230 mm of rain over roughly 15 wet days, but prices collapse after the 6th. Good for indoor Singapore: National Gallery, ArtScience Museum, Cloud Forest.
• February. Driest month, roughly 110 mm. The catch is Chinese New Year, when hawker stalls and family-run shops shut for two to four days and rates jump.
• March. Warm, drying out, moderate crowds, mid-range prices. No event spikes.
• April. Thunderstorms return and the heat feels heaviest. Fares climb in the last week as Indian schools break.
• May. Rain eases slightly but this is peak Indian family travel. Universal Studios queues are long and Sentosa rates hit their non-December high.
• June. The Great Singapore Sale opens and the holiday crowd lingers. Rainfall is low, near 130 mm.
• July. Indian outbound traffic thins while the weather stays reasonable. Quietly one of the better months, and almost nobody recommends it.
• August. National Day on 9 August fills Marina Bay for a weekend. After the 15th, rates soften. Watch the haze forecast.
• September. Cheap and calm until the Formula 1 night race in the second half, when Marina Bay hotels triple. Book either side of it.
• October. Thundery afternoons, Deepavali lights through Little India, rising fares as festival travel starts.
• November. Second wettest at roughly 250 mm, and one of the cheapest. Orchard Road's Christmas light-up starts mid-month, so the first three weeks give you festive Singapore at low-season prices.
• December. Wettest month, roughly 315 mm, and the priciest stretch of the year from about the 15th. Lovely, crowded, worst value going.

Where the money actually moves

Approximate return economy fares from Indian metros, booked six to eight weeks out:

• Chennai, Bengaluru or Kolkata (4 to 4.5 hours direct): roughly Rs 20,000 to 28,000 in a value month, Rs 38,000 to 55,000 in peak weeks.
• Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad or Ahmedabad (5 to 5.5 hours): roughly Rs 26,000 to 34,000 in a value month, Rs 45,000 to 65,000 in peak weeks.

Hotels swing harder. A four-star around Bugis, Clarke Quay or Tanjong Pagar runs about Rs 9,000 to 13,000 a night in February or September, and Rs 18,000 to 26,000 in Christmas week or the race weekend. All figures approximate.

The shoulder weeks that beat both peaks

The fortnight straight after Chinese New Year, usually late February into early March, gives you the driest weather of the year, hawker stalls reopened, short queues, and off-peak room rates. If you can only lock one window, this is it.

Late August to mid-September is the other, as long as you check the Grand Prix date and avoid that weekend. Rainfall is moderate, the Indian holiday rush is done, and a Sentosa room costs what a Bugis room does in December.

What most guides get wrong

Almost every list says avoid November and December because of rain. That misreads how it rains here. A Singapore downpour is a heavy 45 to 90 minute burst, usually mid to late afternoon, then it stops. The city is engineered around it: MRT stations open into malls and covered walkways run for kilometres through Orchard and Marina Bay. You lose an afternoon slot, not the day. November is wet, cheap and already lit up for Christmas. December is a problem because of price, not weather.

The second miss is pushing February for the dry weather without flagging Chinese New Year, when a chunk of the food scene closes and Chinatown is shoulder to shoulder.

One honest skip: the Singapore Flyer. If you have already booked the Marina Bay Sands SkyPark deck, it is an expensive repeat of the same view. Put that money into the Night Safari or Bird Paradise at Mandai instead.

Know before you go

• Visa. Indian passport holders need a visa before flying, applied for through an ICA authorised agent, not on arrival. Budget roughly Rs 2,300 to 3,000 all in, approximate only. Confirm the current fee on the official ICA portal before paying anyone.
• SG Arrival Card. Free, mandatory, submitted online within three days before you land. Lookalike sites charge for it, so use only the official ICA site.
• Vegetarian food is easy. Komala Vilas, Ananda Bhavan and Murugan Idli Shop in Little India, Gokul Vegetarian near Chinatown. At hawker centres like Maxwell and Lau Pa Sat, ask about oyster sauce and fish stock, because "no meat" does not always mean vegetarian.
• Pack for humidity, not rain. Compact umbrella, quick-dry clothes, one light layer for the very cold malls and MRT.
• Check the PSI reading on the NEA site if you travel August to October, in case of haze.
• Pre-book tickets for Universal Studios and Gardens by the Bay in Indian school holidays. Walk-up queues in May run past an hour.

Work out when to go to Singapore before you book anything else, because the price swings are so wide for a city this small. Pick a shoulder fortnight, book the flight before the hotel, and the same trip costs about a third less than it would three weeks later.
