Singapore Visa for Indians: Rules, Fees and How to Apply

An Indian passport does not get you into Singapore on arrival. That single fact catches out plenty of first-time travellers who read an old blog post, book a Friday flight out of Bengaluru, and realise on Wednesday they still need a visa. The good news: the Singapore visa for Indians is one of the least painful in Asia. The government fee is small, processing usually takes under a week, and most applicants are now issued multiple entry visas valid for up to two years. Here is how it works, what it costs in rupees, and where files go wrong.

No visa on arrival, and no visa free entry

There is no Singapore visa on arrival for Indian passport holders. Airlines check for a valid visa at the counter in Delhi, Mumbai or Chennai and will offload you without one. What you get instead is a Singapore e visa: a PDF issued by the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) with a reference number, linked electronically to your passport.

Two things people mix up:

• Visa validity is the window during which you are allowed to arrive. A two year multiple entry visa lets you enter repeatedly across those two years.
• Length of stay is decided by the immigration officer at Changi, usually up to 30 days per entry. A two year visa does not mean two years of staying.

The transit rule most guides get wrong

You will see articles claiming Indians holding a US or UK visa get "visa free entry" to Singapore. That is a misreading of the Visa Free Transit Facility (VFTF), which allows a stay of up to 96 hours while you transit Singapore to or from a third country, provided you hold a valid visa or long term pass for the USA, Canada, Japan, the UK, Germany, Switzerland, Australia or New Zealand, plus a confirmed onward ticket.

It is a transit facility, not a holiday permit. A Mumbai to Singapore to Mumbai trip does not qualify, no matter how many US visas sit in your passport. Read the current VFTF conditions on the ICA website before you plan around it.

Singapore visa fee: what you actually pay

The ICA processing fee is SGD 30. At current rates that is roughly Rs 2,000 (approximate), and it moves with the exchange rate, so treat every rupee figure here as a ballpark. On top of that the authorised agent adds a service charge, typically Rs 400 to Rs 2,000. All in, most travellers pay about Rs 2,500 to Rs 4,000 per person.

The fee is not refunded if the application is rejected. If a booking portal quotes Rs 6,000 or more per head, that is markup, not government cost. Confirm the current Singapore visa fee on the official ICA portal or with the Singapore High Commission before you pay anyone.

Documents to keep ready

• Passport valid at least six months from your date of entry, with two blank pages
• Completed and signed Form 14A
• One recent colour photograph, 35mm by 45mm, white matte background, full face, taken within the last three months
• Photocopy of the passport bio page and of any recent visas
• Confirmed return ticket and hotel booking
• Bank statements for the last three months, plus salary slips or your latest ITR
• A leave approval or company letter if salaried, business proof if self employed
• Birth certificate and parental consent for minors travelling without both parents
• Form V39A (Letter of Introduction) only if a Singapore resident or company is sponsoring your visit

How to apply

Indian applicants cannot file directly with ICA and cannot walk into the High Commission with a form. Applications go through an Authorised Visa Agent or a Strategic Partner from the official list.

1. Pick an agent from the list published by the Singapore mission in India. Do not use a random listing you found on a search page.
2. Hand over the documents above. The agent submits the file electronically to ICA.
3. Wait three to five working days in normal season. Around Deepavali, Chinese New Year and the June school holidays, allow longer.
4. Collect the e visa PDF, check the name and passport number match your passport exactly, and print a copy to carry.

Apply roughly three to four weeks before travel. Filing many months ahead of your dates tends to get bounced.

The SG Arrival Card is free, so do not pay for it

Every traveller, visa or not, must submit the SG Arrival Card with its health declaration within the three days before arrival, through the ICA website or the MyICA app. It costs nothing and takes about five minutes.

Skip every site that charges Rs 500 to Rs 1,500 to "process" it for you. Those copycat pages rank well on search and harvest your passport data for a form you can fill yourself. The arrival card is not a visa.

Why applications get rejected or delayed

• Photograph not to spec. This is the single most common reason a file comes back.
• Name mismatch, especially for passports with a single name and no surname. Enter it exactly as printed.
• Passport with less than six months of validity on the date of entry.
• Travel dates that do not line up with the tickets and hotel bookings submitted.
• Thin proof of funds, or no return ticket at all.
• Any previous overstay, deportation or refusal, in any country.

ICA does not give reasons for a rejection, and there is no interview or appeal. You can reapply with a corrected file, but you pay the fee again.

Know before you go

• Return fares from Indian metros run roughly Rs 20,000 to Rs 45,000, with Chennai and Kolkata usually cheapest. December and the summer school break are the expensive weeks.
• Keep your hotel confirmation and return ticket in hand luggage. Officers at Changi do ask first-time visitors for them.
• Vegetarians eat well here. Little India around Race Course Road and Tekka Centre covers full Indian vegetarian and Jain food, and almost every hawker centre has a vegetarian stall. Pre-book a VGML or AVML meal on the flight.
• Vapes and e cigarettes are illegal to carry into Singapore and the fines are real. Leave them at home.
• Travelling independently, budget about SGD 100 a day for food and local transport, roughly Rs 6,500.
