Long Beach Mauritius Review for Indian Couples and Families

Book Long Beach if you want a long, calm stretch of Belle Mare beach, five restaurants with Indian dishes on one of the menus, and family suites with real space for kids. Skip it if you want hushed, adults-only luxury: this is a big resort with a kids' club, and it feels like one.

For price, online travel sites were showing a Junior Suite with breakfast at about Rs 32,000 to Rs 36,000 a night for two in late September 2026, one of the quieter weeks (approximate, and rates move with dates). At those rates, five nights is roughly Rs 1,60,000 to Rs 1,80,000 for the room on breakfast alone, and half board costs more. Prices climb from 20 December to early January and again in July and August, so ask for a half board quote for your exact nights.

Where Long Beach sits

Long Beach is on Belle Mare, on the east coast, and the resort's own factsheet puts its beach at over 1 km of white sand. A coral reef sits offshore, so the water close in is calm for most of the year. The exception is June to August, when the trade winds hit the east coast hardest and the lagoon can turn choppy.

Belle Mare's beach is technically public, so it is not fenced off from the world the way some resort beaches are, and vendors selling sarongs or sunglasses may walk past. It is easy to wave off, but if you were picturing total privacy, this is not that.

The resort is about 45 to 55 km from Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (MRU), which is roughly 50 to 60 minutes by road in normal traffic and up to 75 at rush hour. If your flight lands late, book a private transfer with flight tracking instead of haggling at the taxi rank after a long flight.

The five suite types, and which one to book

Long Beach runs five suite categories, and the real difference between them is how close you are to the sand and how much space you get. The sizes below come from the resort's 2025-26 factsheet.

• Junior Suite, 60 sqm. Ground or first floor, king or twin beds, and a private terrace or balcony with a garden view.
• Junior Suite Premium, 65 sqm. Guaranteed ground floor, with a private terrace and a garden view.
• Junior Suite Beachfront, 65 sqm. Ground or first floor, with a terrace that leads straight out to the beach.
• Family Suite, 85 sqm. King or twin beds and a terrace or balcony, plus a separate sleeping area with its own bathroom for the kids. It sleeps two adults and three children, or two adults and two teens.
• Long Beach Suite, 135 sqm. Ground floor, with a walk-in wardrobe, a separate living area, a guest toilet, and a private terrace with direct beach access and your own sun cocoon.

Every room has individually controlled air conditioning, a separate bath and shower, a minibar with tea and coffee facilities, an electronic safe and USB sockets. Oyster describes the decor as simple and contemporary, with very little wall art. That is fine by me, but it is not the place to come for glamour.

The three Junior Suite categories take up to three adults, or two adults and two teens, and connecting rooms are available on request. That matters if you are travelling with a parent or a second couple.

For a couple on a first trip, I would ask for the Junior Suite and the Junior Suite Beachfront priced side by side. If the gap is small, take the beachfront, because walking straight onto the sand is the reason to pay for it. Beachfront rooms can be on the ground or first floor, so ask for the ground floor if stepping onto the sand matters to you.

What half board covers here

Half board is the part of the quote to read closely, because it is not the same at every resort. At Long Beach it means breakfast at Le Marché, the main buffet, plus dinner at Le Marché or selected items at Sapori (Italian), Tides (fresh fish and Mauritian dishes, on the beach) and Chopsticks. The factsheet marks the a la carte restaurants as selected items, not the full menu, so ask your quote which dishes count.

Hasu is the one to plan around. It is a Japanese restaurant with a grill, a sushi station and a yakitori bar, and the resort charges a supplement for it on every meal plan, all inclusive included. It is open to guests aged 12 and over, so it is not adults-only and teenagers can come along. Budget for it separately if a Hasu dinner is on your wish list.

Chopsticks is the one to know about for food. The resort lists Chinese, Thai and Indian dishes there, though Oyster describes the menu as westernised Chinese cooking and does not mention Indian food, so treat the Indian dishes as a bonus, not a promise. If anyone in your group eats no onion, no garlic or Jain food, write to the resort before you fly and get a written yes, because you should not assume the kitchen will manage it.

For vegetarians, Le Marché is an international buffet with live cooking stations, which usually gives you more to work with than an a la carte menu. I could not find a published vegetarian menu, so ask the resort for sample menus before you commit.

On dress code, the resort's own line is resort chic in the evening, for all its restaurants and bars. It does not spell out more than that, so I would pack collared shirts and long trousers for the men and a couple of smart-casual outfits for everyone else, and keep the beachwear for the day.

Half board or all inclusive: which one pays off

All inclusive starts at check-in at 2 pm and ends at check-out at noon. On top of half board, it adds lunch (selected items at Sapori and Tides), a minibar refilled once a day with soft drinks, juices, water and beers, and a drinks list that covers wines, local and selected imported spirits, cocktails and local beers. Anything not marked as included on the menu card is charged, and Hasu still costs extra. The plan also does not apply at Île aux Cerfs or Ambre, so a day out on the island means paying for food and drinks there.

The restaurant list stays the same either way, so you are paying for lunch, drinks and minibar, not better dinners. The break-even is per day, not per stay, so the length of your trip does not change it. Ask your quote for the per-night gap and compare it with what you would really spend. Oyster notes that there are few restaurants off the beach here, so half board lunches end up being bought on the property too. A couple who has lunch at the resort and cocktails by the pool most afternoons will likely come out ahead on all inclusive. A couple who has one glass at dinner, or no alcohol, is better off on half board and can spend the difference on a spa treatment or a day trip.

Who this resort suits, and who should look elsewhere

Long Beach works well for families. The factsheet lists a Sunlife Kids Club for ages 2 to 11 (open 9.30 am to 10 pm, closed between 5 and 6 pm) and a Waves teens club for ages 12 to 17. Children aged 2 to 3 who are not potty-trained need a parent or babysitter with them, and nannies cost extra. The resort lists four pools, including a kids' pool and a lap pool, and the infinity pool is adults-only.

It also suits couples who want a real beach and a lively resort atmosphere rather than isolation. Golfers get a real perk: free, unlimited green fees at Île aux Cerfs Golf Club and Anahita Golf Club, for golfers only. If you are comparing Long Beach with pricier Belle Mare neighbours, get quotes for two of them on the same dates and compare what each one includes.

Skip it if you want the hushed, adults-only feel some Mauritius resorts sell, or if room design matters more to you than the beach outside. Food variety can also wear thin past five or six nights, and there is almost nothing independent near Belle Mare, so if you stay longer, plan a day trip with a lunch or dinner elsewhere on the island.

Getting there, visa and when to go

Indian passport holders don't need a visa for Mauritius: entry for tourism is granted at the airport, and the immigration officer sets how long you can stay. On timing, Belle Mare is at its best from late April to early June and from September to early November: dry, warm and calmer water. From June to August the trade winds are strongest on the east coast. Prices peak from 20 December to early January and again in July and August, while mid-January to mid-March is cheapest but carries cyclone risk.

Air Mauritius flies direct from Mumbai and Delhi. A few other cities have direct flights on fewer days, such as Air Mauritius from Chennai (weekly, according to its site) and IndiGo from Bengaluru, and most other cities mean one stop. Schedules change, so check yours. Return fares typically run Rs 35,000 to Rs 60,000 per person outside the peaks (approximate, so check live fares for your dates), and much higher over Christmas and New Year.

Six questions to put to your quote

A quote for this resort can hide the details that change the price. Before you pay, get written answers to these:

• Which dishes are covered at Sapori, Tides and Chopsticks on half board, and what does Hasu cost on top?
• If you are looking at all inclusive, which lunch items and drinks are on the list?
• Which floor is the suite on, and can you have a ground-floor or beachfront room?
• Can two adjoining rooms be booked if you are travelling with older kids or parents?
• Are private transfers included, and is the price with or without flights?
• Can the resort confirm your food needs in writing, such as no onion, no garlic or Jain?

The verdict

Book Long Beach if you want a real Belle Mare beach, a menu with some Indian dishes on it, and suites with space for kids. Skip it if hushed, adults-only luxury or top-end room design is the priority. Get quotes for one or two Belle Mare neighbours on the same dates before you decide.
