Mauritius Trip Cost for a Family of 4: Real 5-Night Budget

Plan on about Rs 2.7 lakh to Rs 3.7 lakh for five nights on a no-frills budget, Rs 3.9 lakh to Rs 5.3 lakh at a comfortable mid-range resort, and Rs 5.9 lakh or more for a proper family suite at a five-star. That covers flights, hotel, transfers and a few activities for two adults and two kids. A couple's budget does not simply double: you pay for four seats where only two get a partial discount, a room built for four, and entry tickets with their own age rules. I have priced this for a typical Indian family, two adults with kids around five and ten, staying five or six nights. All figures are approximate and checked as of September 2026.

What a family of four spends over five nights

Here is the split across three levels of comfort, for five nights.

The mid-range and premium flight lines assume school-holiday dates and roomier fares, not the cheapest date in a quiet month.

Six nights instead of five adds one more hotel night plus a day of food and local transport: roughly Rs 18,000 to Rs 26,000 in the budget column, Rs 32,000 to Rs 45,000 in mid-range and Rs 52,000 to Rs 75,000 in premium. Fly in Diwali week or December and the flight line alone can run Rs 1 lakh or more higher across the family. I convert every price quoted in Mauritian rupees (MUR) at about Rs 2.02 per MUR (XE mid-market rate, 24 September 2026).

Flights: kids get a discount, but a smaller one than you hope

Air Mauritius calls anyone under 2 an infant and 2 to 11 year olds "young flyers." Infants travel on a lap ticket for a steep discount, and young flyers typically get somewhere around 25 to 33 percent off the adult fare, though the airline does not publish an exact figure, so treat that as a rule of thumb. Airlines discount children differently, so ask for the exact child fare on each quote.

Economy return fares out of Mumbai or Delhi were running roughly Rs 45,000 to Rs 60,000 per adult in a normal month as of September 2026. Other guides quote lower fares, around Rs 35,000 to Rs 42,000, but those are flexible-date, off-peak fares, so expect the higher range once school-holiday dates are fixed. Fares for 18 to 25 December started near Rs 70,000 per adult and climb from there.

Mumbai has the most nonstop flights (Air India daily plus Air Mauritius, about 6 hours). Bengaluru has a daily IndiGo nonstop of about 6 hours, and Delhi and Chennai each get one weekly Air Mauritius nonstop. From Hyderabad, Kolkata, Kochi and most other cities you connect through Mumbai or a Gulf hub, which adds several hours each way. Schedules change by season, so check the days when you book.

For two kids at a partial discount, a family of four is looking at roughly Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 1.9 lakh return in a normal month. Book 6 to 10 weeks ahead if you can. Fares on this route jump, rather than creep, in the weeks before Diwali or Christmas, and four tickets feel that far more than two.

Visa: the easy part, but every child still needs the form

Indian passport holders do not need a visa for a holiday in Mauritius. The immigration officer decides how long to stamp you for, commonly up to 90 days, and often matches your booked stay. What you do need, for every traveller including infants, is the free All-in-One Travel Digital Form, submitted online through the official portal before you fly. It covers immigration, customs and a health declaration in one go and gives you a QR code to show at the airport.

Carry a passport valid beyond your intended stay for all four of you (many airlines insist on six months, so play safe), plus proof of your return flight, your hotel booking and evidence of funds. There is no visa fee, which helps when you are paying for four.

Budget for the tourist fee too: EUR 3 per person per night for guests aged 12 and over, paid at hotel checkout. Children under 12 are exempt, so for two adults over five nights it is about EUR 30, roughly Rs 3,300. The buffer line in the table covers it.

Family suite, two rooms, or an extra bed: what works

Most Mauritius hotel rooms are priced and built for two adults. Once you are four, you are choosing between an extra bed in a standard room, a dedicated family room or suite, or two separate rooms, and the three cost very differently.

Long Beach Mauritius, on the east coast at Belle Mare, has a Family Suite built for exactly this: 85 square metres, a king bed for the adults and a separate living area that converts into a second room with sofa beds, sleeping up to 3 children or 2 teens alongside you. Its 60 sqm Junior Suite officially sleeps two adults and two children, but that is tight for four, so price the Family Suite instead. The package cards below are priced for two adults, so read them as a floor for hotel and transfers, not a family total.

On the south coast at Bel Ombre, Outrigger Mauritius Beach Resort shows up on several booking listings with free stays for children aged 4 to 11 on existing bedding, which saves money if your kids are happy sharing your room, so ask for it in your quote. Its standard doubles were running about Rs 18,200 to Rs 29,400 a night (US$190 to US$306 at roughly Rs 96 to the dollar, XE, 24 September 2026). Step up to a family room and expect to pay noticeably more, which is roughly where the mid-range hotel line in the table above comes from.

The Westin Turtle Bay, on the north-west coast at Balaclava, has a Family Room and its own kids club (see the table below).

Also at Bel Ombre, SO Sofitel Mauritius goes further than most: its family offer includes free stay and dining for children under 12. If your kids are young enough to qualify, that single policy can knock a big chunk off a premium stay, so check the current offer.

My take: book the family suite or the free-child-on-existing-bedding option if your youngest is under about 8 and happy sharing a room with a sibling or with you. It is usually cheaper than two rooms and keeps everyone in one space at bedtime, which matters more with a 5 year old than it sounds. Once an older child wants a door of their own, two connecting rooms start to make sense. Extra beds on some properties run about Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,200 a night, so do the sum against a suite before assuming either is cheaper.

Kids clubs by age: matching the resort to your kids

All three take ages 3 to 12, so the 5 year old and the 10 year old both qualify everywhere. Outrigger's own pages disagree on the top age (11 on the club page, 12 on the weekly programme), so confirm it when you book. If your youngest is under 3, none of these clubs will take them, and you should plan on one adult being hands-on for most of the day rather than counting on drop-off hours. Long Beach is not in the table because I could not confirm its kids club ages on the official pages, so ask before you book if that matters.

On meal plans: half board (breakfast and dinner) suits kids because lunch out gives everyone a change of scene. Full board or all-inclusive costs more a night but removes the guesswork on the day a toddler melts down before dinner.

To put a number on the activities line: La Vanille Nature Park, the crocodile and giant tortoise park in the south, charges non-residents MUR 975 an adult and MUR 685 for a child aged 3 to 12, roughly Rs 1,970 and Rs 1,385 once converted, so a family of four gets in for about Rs 6,700. A half-day catamaran trip to Ile aux Cerfs is the bigger spend, with child rates set by each operator, so ask for a family price.

Shared coach or private transfer, with two kids and four suitcases

A private car from the airport to Belle Mare or Bel Ombre was running roughly MUR 1,800 to MUR 3,000 one way, about Rs 3,600 to Rs 6,100 as of September 2026. A shared coach transfer runs roughly MUR 500 to MUR 1,000 per person, about Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000. That looks cheaper until you multiply by four: it lands close to the private car's price, minus the convenience, and a shared coach can make several hotel stops before yours. With a tired 5 year old and four suitcases, I would book the private transfer every time. The saving from the shared coach is small and the time cost is real.

When to go: Indian school holidays against Mauritius's own peak

Indian summer holidays, roughly May into June depending on the state, fall in Mauritius's dry winter season: cooler, drier, and still ahead of the European summer crowds that push prices up hard in July and August, when beachfront rates climb sharply.

Diwali 2026 falls on 8 November, with many Indian schools closing for about a week around it, and that week sits in Mauritius's shoulder season with only mild cyclone risk this early in the season. Christmas and New Year land in Mauritius's most expensive month, and most Indian schools break from around 20 December, so you are competing with everyone else. Expect the top end of every column in the table, or above it. January to March is the cheapest stretch of the year, but it is also the hottest, wettest window and carries the highest cyclone risk of the year, not where I would want to be stuck indoors with two kids during a storm warning.

Is Mauritius actually good for families

Yes, with one thing to check. Many resort beaches sit inside a reef-protected lagoon, shallow and calm rather than open ocean, which is easier with young swimmers than most beaches. Kids clubs are common at the family-oriented properties, and Mauritius is only 1 hour 30 minutes behind Indian time, so there is barely any jet lag or sleep-schedule disruption to manage.

The check: plenty of Mauritius's best-known resorts are adults-only or couples-first. None of the four above are, but confirm a resort takes children before you fall for its photos.

One caution: Mauritius is not a big checklist destination like Bali or Thailand. It rewards slow beach days over a packed schedule, so a family that needs constant activity should budget for more paid excursions than the numbers above assume.
