Thailand Trip Cost from India: A Real Budget Breakdown
Lean, comfortable and premium budgets for 7 days, every line in rupees
By Kabir Nair · Updated July 2026

Most Thailand budgets online are either backpacker fantasy or an agency quote with the expensive parts quietly left out. Here is what a Thailand trip cost from India really looks like in rupees, line by line, for a 6 night trip covering Bangkok plus one beach (Phuket, Krabi or Koh Samui). All figures are approximate, per person on twin sharing, and move with season and booking date.
The three budgets, per person, 7 days
- Lean: Rs 45,000 to 60,000. Guesthouses, street food, public transport, one or two paid tours.
- Comfortable: Rs 75,000 to 1,05,000. Four star hotels with breakfast, Grab plus BTS, three or four activities.
- Premium: Rs 1,60,000 to 2,50,000. Beachfront resorts, private transfers, speedboat charters, premium economy.
Flights are the biggest line, stay is second. Everything else is smaller than first timers fear.
Flights from Indian metros
Approximate return economy fares, booked 6 to 10 weeks ahead, off peak:
- Kolkata to Bangkok: Rs 14,000 to 22,000 (shortest hop, consistently the cheapest gateway)
- Delhi to Bangkok: Rs 18,000 to 30,000
- Mumbai to Bangkok: Rs 20,000 to 33,000
- Bengaluru or Chennai to Bangkok: Rs 18,000 to 30,000
- Indian metro straight to Phuket: Rs 26,000 to 40,000, usually worse value than via Bangkok
Add Rs 3,500 to 7,000 one way for Bangkok to Phuket, Krabi or Samui on Thai AirAsia or Nok Air. Book that leg separately, low cost carriers price it well below a through fare.
Peak dates (Christmas week, New Year, the Diwali break, mid April Songkran) add 40 to 80 percent. That single choice moves your Thailand trip price more than anything else you decide.
Stay, per night, twin sharing
- Lean: Rs 1,600 to 3,000 a room. Rambuttri and Silom guesthouses, older three star places a street back from Patong.
- Comfortable: Rs 4,000 to 8,000 a room. Sukhumvit four stars with breakfast and a pool, mid range Ao Nang, Chaweng in Samui.
- Premium: Rs 13,000 to 35,000 a room. Riverside Bangkok, Kata and Bang Tao resorts, with pool villas above that.
In Bangkok, staying within 400 metres of a BTS station saves more in taxi fares than the location premium costs you.
Food per day, and what vegetarians should plan for
- Street food and mall food courts: Rs 500 to 900 a day. Pad thai around Rs 150, a rice plate Rs 120, a 7 Eleven breakfast Rs 100.
- Mid range restaurants with a beer: Rs 1,500 to 2,500 a day.
- Hotel dining and rooftop bars: Rs 4,000 and up.
No meat is not the same as vegetarian here. Fish sauce, oyster sauce and shrimp paste go into most standard dishes, pad thai and green curry included. Ask for jay food, which means no animal products, and look for the yellow and red jay signs. Phahurat (Bangkok's Little India) and Sukhumvit Soi 11 have Jain friendly kitchens at Rs 600 to 1,200 a head, and Patong and Ao Nang have Indian restaurants too.

- Suvarnabhumi Airport Rail Link into the city: about Rs 130
- Grab or metered taxi, airport to Sukhumvit: Rs 900 to 1,400
- One BTS or MRT ride: Rs 50 to 150
- Phuket airport to Patong: shared minibus about Rs 550, private taxi Rs 2,000 to 2,600
- Phuket to Phi Phi ferry: Rs 900 to 1,600 each way
- Scooter rental: Rs 600 to 900 a day, only with an international driving permit
For the week, budget Rs 3,500 lean, Rs 6,000 comfortable, Rs 15,000 premium.
Activities, and one to skip
- Phi Phi and Maya Bay speedboat day trip: Rs 2,500 to 4,500
- James Bond Island with Phang Nga canoeing: Rs 2,500 to 4,000
- Grand Palace and Wat Pho entry: roughly Rs 1,500 combined, confirm current rates on site
- One hour Thai massage: Rs 700 to 1,200
- Chao Phraya dinner cruise: Rs 1,500 to 3,500
Skip the Damnoen Saduak floating market: a 4am start, three hours of driving, and a boat ride past souvenir stalls. Amphawa on a weekend evening is better value. Also refuse any tuk tuk driver offering a cheap city tour with a gem factory stop, which is a commission scam.
Most guides also get Pattaya wrong. Two nights there cost you the beach days you flew in for. If beaches matter, fly straight to Krabi or Samui and skip it.
Visa, arrival card and insurance
Indian passport holders have had visa exempt tourist entry through recent rounds of Thai policy, and the rules have been revised more than once. Confirm your current status on the official Thai e-Visa portal and the Immigration Bureau site before booking, then again a week before you fly.
- Digital arrival card: required and free, filed online just before arrival. Lookalike sites charge for it, use the official portal only.
- If a visa does apply to your case, budget roughly Rs 5,500 to 6,500 and allow processing time.
- Travel insurance for a week: Rs 800 to 2,000, worth it since Thai private hospitals bill international rates.
- Immigration can ask for proof of funds, commonly quoted as 10,000 baht a person.
What actually moves the number
- Season. Peak weeks add roughly Rs 20,000 a person before you even book a hotel.
- Booking window. Six to ten weeks out is the sweet spot. Inside three weeks, fares climb hard.
- Island choice. Samui costs more than Krabi for the same hotel standard.
- Internal hops. Every extra flight or ferry adds cost and half a day.
- Forex. Decline the charge in INR option at card machines, it costs 3 to 5 percent. Thai ATMs charge about Rs 640 a withdrawal, so pull larger amounts less often, or change cash at a Superrich counter rather than the airport.
A typical Thailand package cost from an Indian operator runs Rs 55,000 to 1,10,000 a person for 6 nights. What matters is the exclusion list: ask whether flights, transfers, tour tickets and the Bangkok to island leg are inside before you compare quotes.
Know before you go
- Carry an international driving permit for a scooter. An Indian licence alone is not enough.
- A local SIM or eSIM at the airport costs Rs 700 to 1,000 for 8 days of data.
- Cash rules at street stalls and small ferries. Cards work in malls, hotels and Grab.
- Book day tours a day or two ahead in high season, not months out.
- Keep Rs 8,000 a person unbudgeted for shopping and the last day taxi.
A comfortable Thailand budget lands near Rs 80,000 a person for 7 days. Spend less by flying off peak, and spend more only where it changes your day, usually the hotel and one good boat.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a realistic Thailand trip cost from India for 7 days?
For one person on a 6 night, 7 day trip covering Bangkok and one beach, expect roughly Rs 45,000 to 60,000 on a lean budget, Rs 75,000 to 1,05,000 comfortably, and Rs 1,60,000 upwards at the premium end. These are approximate and assume twin sharing plus off peak return flights from an Indian metro.
How much are return flights to Bangkok from Indian cities?
Approximately Rs 14,000 to 22,000 from Kolkata, Rs 18,000 to 30,000 from Delhi, Bengaluru or Chennai, and Rs 20,000 to 33,000 from Mumbai, when booked 6 to 10 weeks ahead in the off season. Peak dates such as New Year and Songkran can push these up by 40 to 80 percent.
Do Indian passport holders need a visa for Thailand?
Indian passport holders have had visa exempt tourist entry in recent rounds of Thai policy, but the rules have been extended and revised more than once. Confirm your current status on the official Thai e-Visa portal and the Immigration Bureau site before booking. A free digital arrival card is also required shortly before you travel.
Is vegetarian food easy to find in Thailand?
It takes a little effort. Fish sauce, oyster sauce and shrimp paste appear in most standard Thai dishes, so ask for jay food, which means no animal products. Phahurat and Sukhumvit Soi 11 in Bangkok have reliable Indian and Jain friendly restaurants, and Patong and Ao Nang have Indian options too, usually 30 to 50 percent pricier than local Thai food.
Is a Thailand package cheaper than booking everything yourself?
Packages usually run Rs 55,000 to 1,10,000 per person for 6 nights and often save money on hotels and transfers. Independent booking wins on flexibility and food. Compare on the exclusion list, specifically flights, airport transfers, tour tickets and the internal Bangkok to island leg.
